Our Approach

At Swindon Sports Therapy we believe that understanding why you're in pain is just as important as treating it. Our approach is built around finding the true underlying cause of your problem - not just managing the symptoms - and giving you the tools to stay pain-free long after your sessions with us are done.

1. We Listen First

Before we look at your body, we want to hear your story.

Your history, your lifestyle, your goals – and what you actually want to get back to. Not just “less pain” but the thing you’re missing. Running. Sport. Playing with your kids. Getting through a working day without discomfort. That goal shapes everything we do from here.

2. We Assess Your Whole Body

The area that hurts is frequently not the area causing the problem.
Through a series of movements, muscle tests and specific clinical assessments we build a clear picture of what’s actually driving your pain.

We look at the whole body — not just the painful region — because the body works as a connected system and we assess it that way.

3. We Identify What's Holding You Back

We’ll explain what we’ve found in plain language — because when you understand the why behind your problem, you’re far more likely to engage with the treatment plan and get a lasting result.

4. Hands-On Treatment

Depending on what your assessment reveals, hands-on treatment may include sports massage, joint mobilisation, myofascial release and muscle activation.

We work on the areas contributing to your pain — which are often not where you’d expect — and aim to bring about immediate, measurable change within the session itself.

5. Exercise Rehabilitation

Hands-on treatment creates short-term change. Exercise rehabilitation creates long-term change.

We introduce targeted exercises designed to build the strength, stability and movement quality that keeps you pain-free. For clients in rehabilitation from injury or surgery, this stage is structured around clear goals – we don’t progress until you’re ready.

6. Self-Management

Our goal is never to make you dependent on us.

Throughout your treatment we’ll teach you techniques and strategies you can use between sessions and beyond – so you’re equipped to manage your own body and stay pain-free well into the future.

The Principles Behind Our Approach

Everything we do at Swindon Sports Therapy is underpinned by a set of core beliefs developed over 20 years of clinical practice:

The body works as a whole

Pain in one area is almost always influenced by what's happening elsewhere.

The cause matters more than the symptom

Treating where it hurts without understanding why produces short-term results at best.

Manual therapy and exercise work best together

Each has a distinct role and neither alone is as effective as the two combined.

You should understand your own body

An informed client is an empowered client, and your engagement is as important as anything we do in the session.
