Knee Pain Treatment in Swindon
If you've been told to rest it, managed around it, or quietly accepted that your knee just isn't what it used to be - we'd like to change your mind.
Knee pain is one of the conditions we treat most frequently at Swindon Sports Therapy, and it’s rarely as straightforward – or as hopeless – as people have been led to believe.
Many of the people we see have already tried rest, painkillers or previous treatment that only helped temporarily. Our goal is not just to reduce pain, but to understand why it keeps returning and address the underlying causes driving it.
Is This Right for You?
This approach may be a good fit if:
- You've had knee pain that keeps coming back despite previous treatment
- You're a runner, cyclist or active person whose knee is holding you back
- Generic exercises haven't solved the issue
- You want to understand why your knee hurts — not just temporarily manage symptoms
- Your pain is affecting your training, sport or daily life
- You've been told "nothing is wrong" but your knee still doesn't feel right
- You want a combination of hands-on treatment and structured rehabilitation
We regularly help runners, cyclists, triathletes, footballers and active people of all kinds recover from persistent knee pain and return to normal activity with more confidence.
Why Is Your Knee Painful?
The knee sits in the middle of a chain of muscles and structures running from the hips down to the foot and ankle. When something in that chain stops working as it should, other muscles compensate — and the knee is frequently where that shows up as pain.
The painful area itself is often not the true source of the problem.
We frequently find that ongoing knee pain is being influenced by issues elsewhere in the body, including:
- Hip muscle dysfunction — particularly the muscles responsible for hip flexion
- Weakness in the muscles supporting the back of the knee
- Foot and ankle mechanics
- Movement patterns that place excessive stress on the knee over time
Unless these underlying drivers are identified and addressed, pain often returns.
The good news is that knee pain is far more fixable than most people think. With the right approach, most clients begin noticing meaningful improvement within a relatively small number of sessions.
What Makes Our Approach Different?
At Swindon Sports Therapy we combine hands-on manual therapy with targeted exercise rehabilitation. Each element has a distinct role - and together they produce results that neither achieves alone.
Manual Therapy
Hands-on treatment to reduce pain, release tension and restore movement quickly.
Exercise Rehabilitation
Builds on those improvements by developing the strength, stability and movement quality needed to keep you pain-free long term. Your programme is based on your assessment findings - not a generic set of knee exercises.
Whole-Body Assessment
We don't just focus on the painful area. We assess how the hip, knee, foot and ankle interact - because persistent knee pain is almost always linked to problems elsewhere in the chain.
Clear Explanations
We explain what we find in plain language so you understand what's contributing to your pain, what we're treating and what you can do to help yourself recover.

How is this different from standard physiotherapy?
In an MSK setting the two can look very similar. The difference at Swindon Sports Therapy is time, depth and philosophy. We take the time to hear your full story, look beyond the painful area, and treat the underlying cause. If you’ve tried physiotherapy and felt something was missing — it might be worth a conversation.
